The Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head-and-Neck Surgery (ENT) has been providing diagnosis and comprehensive treatments of ear, nose and throat diseases as well as treatments for hearing and balance and head and neck cancer surgeries.

The department has continuously evolved and flourished with the aim of providing quality care to patients and their families. Now, it is one of the major tertiary referral units in Pakistan. The department comprises of highly qualified consultants, excellent out-patient, in-patient, emergency and operative services along with diagnostic facilities for all ENT and head and neck diseases.

Patients are managed in a systematic manner with emphasis on quick diagnosis and early treatment. There is a Procedure room in OPD for minor procedures, wound management and microscopic ear examination. Diagnostic fiberoptic / rigid endoscopic facilities are also available. Emergency cover is provided round the clock.

We are looking forward to increase the skills and practice in world’s most advanced procedures, such as, Endoscopic skull base surgery, Endoscopic per oral thyroidectomy and Cochlear implant

Services

Audiology

The Audiology Section is equipped with modern clinical audiometers and tympanometer. We also provide neonatal auditory screening to every newborn child at LNH.

Head & Neck

  • Trauma: We perform Reconstruction of larynx in trauma cases.
  • Tracheostomies
  • Endoscopies wwhich include direct laryngoscopy and biopsies, rigid oesophagoscopy, rigid bronchoscopy (Therapeutic and diagnostic purposes).
  • Oncology: The department offers clinical and surgical care concerning screening and treatment of tumors of the head and neck, including the oral cavity, larynx, pharynx, Para-nasal sinus, thyroid and salivary glands along with reconstruction with local distant axial free flaps. Oncology cases are discussed fortnightly in Tumor Board at LNH.

Outpatient Clinics

We provide examinations and treatments to patients in general and specialized sections (otology, endocrinology, rhinology, oncology and head & neck). The clinic is equipped with oto-microscopes, nasal endoscopes, video otoscope and flexible video-laryngoscopes. We also perform small biopsies and dressings in our clinic setup.

The Deaf child clinics provide access to cochlear implant program in which parents are able to meet audiologist, speech therapist, child psychologist and ENT surgeon under one roof.

Endocrine surgery

The ENT department provides surgical and medical care to patients presenting with thyroid and parathyroid benign and malignant diseases.

We have introduced endoscopic per oral excision of thyroid gland recently (in small goitre) and successfully done three cases and offering patients this new and minimally invasive aesthetically better option than open technique (Thyroid Surgery with no Scar on Neck).

We are "The Only Centre in Pakistan" offering Trans oral endoscopic thyroidectomy.

Otology

The department provides treatments of external and middle ear diseases as well as surgery of the facial nerve. We also provide after care for our patients. Multiple Childhood Deafness & Cochlear Implant Clinics are conducted weekly. The department excels in performing Endoscopic Ear Surgery & Cochlear Implants.
Cochlear Implant Program

Rhinology

Whole ranges of Nasal and Sinus diseases are managed. Following endoscopic surgical procedures are done in addition to open surgeries:

  • Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS)
  • Endoscopic DCR
  • Endoscopic clipping of sphenopalatine artery
  • Endoscopic removal of angiofibroma & skull base tumors
  • Endoscopic optic Nerve decompression

The department has active 4 years of residency program which is research oriented and ensures enhancing one’s academic, clinical as well as research abilities.
