Eligibility

Full-time medical students in their final year of study ( or going to start their final year) outside Pakistan, in good academic standing
Completion of core clerkships prior to start date of approved LNH elective: Internal Medicine, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, and General Surgery. If these clerkships are not listed on your transcript at the time you submit your application, the completion dates must be listed by your dean/Principal in their letter of good standing.
Must be fully vaccinated at least 2 weeks prior to elective start date. You are required to have the proof of following immunization.
- Hepatitis B Vaccination
- Hepatitis C Vaccination
- Covid Vaccination

Elective Calendar

We recommend that you submit your application six months before the start of your chosen elective. The latest you can apply is four weeks prior to the start of the desired elective.
* Please do not submit your application more than six months prior to your earliest elective date.

Scope of the Program

During the stay at LNH in the chosen specialty, the visiting student will be exposed to a multicultural, high volume, patient centered care environment.
Every visiting student will be assigned a faculty member of the chosen department, who be a “mentor “ and will facilitate all aspects of learning along with continuous feedback
LNH&MC has established a “buddy” system for international visiting students to help them get accustomed to the local environment. Buddy will be a student of same level and will facilitate visiting student paired with him/ her.
Visiting students during their electives will be the part of the routine medical class, he/she will be expected to attend rounds, clinical meetings, journal club etc and clerk patients in OPD under supervision
Elective student will be given opportunity to scrub /assist in surgical cases and expected to follow hospital protocol.
LNH&MC aims to ensure full hands on opportunities to its visiting students to enhance their overall learning experience

How to Apply?

a) Create an Account:

Submit your application form available after registering.
Additional required document (scanned as single PDF file) to be uploaded along with your application s verification from institution (form) etc.

b) Instructions with the form:

Please complete the application form linked above and submit in the order listed here.
Refer to the List of Electives and application dates; please select three (3) electives and three (3) dates according to priority, and, as stated on the application. List the NAMES of your preferred electives, or your application will be returned.
List of Required Documents:
- Letter of Good Standing signed and dated by school authority in previous 3 months
- Proof of Prerequisite Core Clerkships (in case it is not available, then it should be mentioned in your letter of good standing that you have completed those rotations or will complete them before your elective start date)
- One photo graph
- Copy of passport
- Attach copy of Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate.
- Attach proof of the following:
  - Hepatitis B Surface Antigen
  - HCV Antibody
  - Hepatitis B Surface Antibody (A complete record of Hepatitis B vaccination required, if Hepatitis B Surface Antibody is non-reactive

Incomplete applications will not be considered. If one of the electives you requested is available, you will be informed through email, but providing each step of application updates is not possible.

c) Fees

There is a non-refundable application processing fee of $50 USD due at the time of application.
Elective fees are $200 USD for a two-week elective, and $300 USD for a four-week elective.
Visiting students can spend up to two months for clinical electives

d) Visa Application:

Accepted students will be required to obtain a visa in order to visit Pakistan. Students should apply for a visa after receiving the electives approval letter.

Visiting students are required to have an appropriate visa from the Pakistani High Commission in their country. Government of Pakistan has introduced online visa application process. https://visa.nadra.gov.pk/tourist-visit-visas/.

Your supporting document for visa will be our acceptance letter along with your own personal documents required by NADRA online portal.

Code of Conduct

Visiting international students are subject to the same rules and regulations that apply to Liaquat National Hospital & Medical College’s (LNMC) students. Satisfactory academic/clinical performance and professional conduct determine registration and continued participation in electives.
Students must follow all the rules and regulations of Liaquat National Hospital. While the student is on the elective placement, the Hospital is not responsible or liable for any accident or harm that may be caused directly or indirectly, on or off the Hospital premises.
If a student's behavior, performance, or language skills is unsatisfactory, it may lead to administrative withdrawal from the program and the student's return home.
Electives in all settings are expected to dress in a simple, decent, and appropriate manner.
Reporting for the electives on time and using appropriate written and oral expression in all interactions with Hospital personnel, managers, supervisors, employees, the public, and clients.
Engaging in positive, good, and legal behavior.
Observing all established safety and sanitation codes.
Participating in all relevant orientation or testing required by the Institute.
Electives individually or as a group will refrain from engaging in any activity which hinders or prevents the participation of another person or group of persons in any of the activities of the Hospital.
Electives will refrain from any behavior which will cause damage to Hospital property.
Electives will ensure that their actions do not in any way threaten or endanger the health, safety, or security of other persons or imperil the latter’s properties.
Maintaining confidentiality regarding information accessed on any patients, clients, members, employees, and products or services associated with the Institute.
Taking pictures of patients and ongoing services in the institute and posting them on social media is not only unethical but also against institutional policy and is liable to legal action if necessary.

1. Can I choose my own preceptor or supervisor?

Supervisor will be designated by the department after the approval of your application.

2. Will I be responsible for my own housing and transportation?

Hospital is not responsible for arrangement of housing and transportation services, however there are limited rooms at mess/hostel which are available for this program and that can be allotted on first come and first serve basis.

3. What will my daily schedule look like during the elective?

Your daily schedule will be influenced by the specific program of the specialty where you are completing your elective. A detailed program objectives and schedule will be provided on your introduction day.

4. Are there research opportunities during the elective?

There are many ongoing research project at different departments of LNH . Principle investigator of the project might engage you in clinical research initiatives, contribute to data collection, or deliver research presentations. This allows you to play a role in advancing medical knowledge.

5. What are the assessment and evaluation criteria for the elective?

You will be assessed throughout your stay on the basis of clinical performance, presentations and case discussions, clinical logbooks and reflections, self-assessment, feedback from preceptors and attending physicians regarding your performance, clinical acumen, and professionalism.

6. Is there a language requirement or language support for international students?

English is mode of communication and writing in our institution.

7. Is there a dress code or uniform requirement?

Pakistani cultural norm needs to be followed. Dressing in professional attire will be appreciated

8. What resources are available for my professional development during the elective?

LNH has all the facility for upgrading of education and academics of undergraduate and post graduate student. We have Research and Skills Development Centre (RSDC) , library with all online resources of journals and academic books.

9. Will there be any availability of healthcare facilities to me?

Healthcare facilities are available at Liaquat National Hospital on self-finance basis.

10. During an elective placement, will I be issued an ID card?

At registration, you will be provided an Identity card for the duration of the elective placement. In case of misplacement, a fee of PKR.1000 will be charged for its reissuance.
