RADIATION PROTECTION OFFICER

Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise operational aspects of the radiation protection program.
- Identify deficiencies in compliance with the radiation protection program and report to the executive director as well as the radiation protection committee.
- Coordinate with PNRA and facilitate internal and external audits.
- Contribute to the planning and design of any new or modified radiation facility.
- Undertake the radiation safety assessment of new installations, process and equipment prior to their acceptance.
- Identify and establish controlled and supervised areas.
- Specify appropriate monitoring procedure.
- Ensure enough radiation monitoring instruments are available and that they are calibrated and service as required.
- Implement personal and workplace monitoring programme.
- Review systematically and periodically monitoring programs on all-area where radiation sources are used, stored, or disposed off.
- Inform all radiation users of their personal doses and ensure these are consistent with optimization.
- Ensure appropriate measures are taken to control the exposure of a pregnant employee.
- Exercise and carry out emergency procedures.
- Ensure necessary leak testing of sealed sources is performed.
- Supervise decontamination procedure.
- Provide waste disposal procedure in accordance with the condition of the license or as specified by the PNRA.
- Report all overexposures, accidents and losses of radiation sources and reporting to the radiation protection committee/PNRA as necessary.
- Conduct refresher courses and training of radiation workers.
- Any other work activity assigned by HOD.
Qualifications and Experience:
- BS Honors/ Masters Degree in Physics with 2-3 years of experience in radiation protection.
- Must have strong knowledge of radiation protection and safety processes.
- Effective communications and supervisory skills.
