Latest Surgical Procedure for Enlarged Prostate Gland
Prioritize Your Prostate Health!
Liaquat National is proud to be the First Tertiary Care Hospital to introduce a modern, minimally invasive method for treating Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) (enlarged prostate gland) and its related issues.
Rezum Water Vapour Therapy
This endoscopic and non-medicinal procedure uses the natural energy stored in water vapour (steam) to gently remove excess prostate tissue pressing against the urethra and causing urinary problems.
Rezum water therapy is ideal for men over 50 who require a non-medicinal, minimally invasive surgical advanced procedure to treat an enlarged prostate.
Symptoms Indicating Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
- Frequent urination every 1–2 hours
- Waking up more than twice at night to urinate
- Sudden, strong urge to urinate
- Difficulty starting and stopping urine flow
- Poor urine flow
- Incomplete bladder emptying
- Inability to pass urine
- Difficulty or effort needed to start urinating
Unique Advantages of Rezum Therapy
- Long-lasting symptom relief
- Sexual function is preserved
- Involves no BPH medicines and their side effects
- Daycare surgery procedure
- Route to fast recovery
- No permanent implant
- Performed under local anesthesia
Thulium Fiber Laser (TFL)
Advanced, Safe, and Effective Treatment for Urinary Tract Stones
Liaquat National Hospital offers the Thulium Fiber Laser (TFL) to break kidney and ureteric stones and other soft tissues. This advanced solid-state laser technology, used in urology, operates at a wavelength of approx. 1940 nm. This allows highly efficient energy transfer to tissues and urinary stones. This cutting-edge technology is particularly used for the management of urolithiasis and benign prostatic enlargement.
Why Choose Thulium Fiber Laser for Kidney stone Removal?
For Kidney Stones
TFL is highly impactful for kidney stones, as it utilises a very thin, flexible laser that reaches difficult areas inside the urinary tract. Its ability to turn hard kidney stones into a very fine dust makes it the most beneficial method of kidney stone removal. While working on ureteric stones, less retropulsion reduces the chances of backward movement and keeps the stone still while the surgeon works on it.
For Bladder Stones
Bladder stones are harder and larger than kidney stones. TFL efficiently transfers energy, which quickly breaks down large, dense bladder stones.
In soft tissue applications, such as Laser-assisted tissue removal of the enlarged prostate (ThuFLEP), TFL provides precise cutting with excellent hemostasis and minimal thermal damage.
How Does it Work?
- It can deliver very low pulse energy (as low as 0.025 J) at very high frequencies (up to 2000 Hz).
- TFL’s fiber-based design allows smaller laser fibers to access hard-to-reach areas inside the urinary tract.
- The laser energy is absorbed efficiently by water and stones, minimizing damage to surrounding tissue.
Advantages of Thulium Fiber Laser
- Superior stone dusting
- Reduced reteropulsion of stones
- Greater efficiency and precision – faster stone clearance
- Safe, less tissue damage
- Versatile and adoptable
- Less heat generation
- Portable, compact system
Overall, the Thulium Fiber Laser serves as a significant technological advancement in urology, which is increasingly being adopted as an alternative to traditional laser treatment methods.
Education and Training
Urology Department trains its residents to reach their full potential as surgeons. We offer a fully accredited FCPS training program recognized by College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.
