Department of Ophthalmology

We at LNH pride ourselves in providing the best possible care one can have in a reasonable price range with an extremely congenial atmosphere.
Department of Ophthalmology is renowned for providing care for all kind of ocular (eye) problems known to man. Being a tertiary care hospital, we receive patients from all over Pakistan and out sides Pakistan besides providing all possible eye care for local community.
The department is staffed by three fulltime consultants and one part-time consultant, two senior registrars, 4 FCPS trainees, 4 MCPS trainees, two ophthalmic refraction technicians and lots of support staff. We have a dedicated eye clinic, eye ward & an optician shop. We also have state-of-the art Eye Operation Theater in executive wing.


Department at a glance:
We have facilities which can cater for Cataract, Glaucoma, and Diabetic eye complications, complex retinal problem & age related retinal problems.
We provide excellent care for all pediatric (children) problem including facilities for examination under anesthesia and under sedation of children under 3 / 4 years of age, all sorts of squint problems are dealt by our department.
For cataract surgery we have excellent facilities for Phacoemulsification, we provide monofocal, TORIC and multifocal intraocular lens which can get rid of all types of refractive problems and make you spectacle free. We have state of the art YAG Laser to deal with after cataract. (Posterior capsular opacification after cataract surgery).
For glaucoma diagnosis and management we have OCT (ocular coherent tomography) of disc analysis and Field testing by state of the art equipment.
In Glaucoma we are providing Trabeculectomy with Mitomycin C which ensures success at a very high rate. We also provide Glaucoma value surgeries for all refractory glaucoma besides other procedure available in glaucoma surgeries.
For retinal problems we have digital angiography. State of the art OCT to diagnosis difficult retinal problems. We have facilities for Argon laser where we have all three laser delivery system for patients who are ambulatory & non ambulatory patients and patients under anesthesia.


Trauma Centre ( 24 hours emergency cover):
We at LNH have one of the best trauma centers and have extensive experience with blast injuries and dealing with intraocular foreign bodies. We provide round the clock emergency cover for all ocular emergencies through an establish postgraduate teaching program.

- Refraction for both adults and children.
- Exhaustive and thorough eye checkup.
- Fields (Humpheries).
- Digital fundus fluorescein angiography.
- Hess Chart (for muscle imbalance).
- B-Scan (three dimensional) facilities for ant segment ultrasound
- Argan laser with all three delivery Modes.
- YAG laser for thickened posterior capsule.
- OCT (Ocular coherent tomography).
- Top pf the range OT with facilities for all advance Cataract, Glaucoma, Retina, Squint surgeries.
- We provide Amniotic membrane grafting for difficult surface problems & its reconstruction.
- Corneal grafting.
- Advance glaucoma surgeries both adult and in children.
- Advance vitreo Retinal surgeries.
- LNH being a multidisciplinary tertiary care centre, the department of eye liaise with Neurosurgery, fascio-maxillary Surgery, ENT, Plastic and repair Surgical department and department of mental health.
- ROP screening with Neonatology in premature babies.






We have established ourselves as a renowned postgraduate teaching centre; we have an established teaching program for both undergraduates & postgraduates.
We are also recognized for post fellowship in retina. To our credit we have 18 FCPS, 6 FRCS and 14 MCPS postgraduates with an established Medical College, now we will be excelling at undergraduate level as well.

The eye OPD is spacious and centrally air-conditioned and is situated at the basement of Wajid Ali shah Complex building. There is a comfortable waiting area. All patients are thoroughly examined, not only for the presenting complaints, but are screened for asymptomatic diseases as per international guidelines.


Operation Theater:
There is a separate eye operation theater, which is well equipped with facilities to do all kinds of major and minor eye surgeries. The latest equipment includes standard phaco machine, Accurus Vitrectomy, and Indirect laser delivery system microscope with video camera system. It is located in Executive wing 1st floor.


Eye Ward:
There is separate eye ward with trained ophthalmic nursing staff to look after pre and postoperative ophthalmic cases and other eye diseases. The eye department is fully in touch with other faculties of the hospital for any help. The ward includes well equipped examination room to deal without of Hour work. The residents on call provide cover for on call services.


Department of Ophthalmology has the resources, equipment, man power, expertise, continuity of care to be considered as one of the best units in Pakistan. We are striving to achieve even more heights in excellence, we are also in the process of acquiring new equipments in refractive surgery and looking for increase in personnel to achieve even better service to the community and Pakistan at large.
