LNH Protest Violence against Health Care Professionals

Liaquat National Hospital protested against growing incidences of violence towards the Health Care Professionals across the country by a partial shutdown of its services on January 22, 2011.

Dr. Salman Faridi, Medical Director Liaquat National Hospital, expressed his grave sorrow and strongly condemned the assassination of Dr. Imran Wasih Haider who was fatally targeted in front of Layari General Hospital on his way home after finishing his duty.He emphasized that the doctors have been peacefully delivering their basic services towards the noble profession of health care, but this recurring wave of violence directed at medical community would not only affect the performance of doctors and paramedical staff but in turn would take a heavy toll of the overall quality of health care system of the country. In the past, more than 70 leading doctors were targeted and this story is being repeated again.

Senior Faculty of LNH passed a resolution expressing their concerns that a peaceful community that caters to the poor and needy has been targeted. They emphasized that medical professionals should not only be provided complete protection but also adequate security, financial compensation to the families of the victims and the convicted killers be detained and brought to court and given exemplary punishment.
