Department of Health Care Education (DHCE):


The Department of Health Care Education aims to create a national distinct environment of quality education for a diverse group of health care educators. The department will strive for a new generation of health care leaders and educators with commitment to excellence, innovation, technology, collaborative practices and responsiveness to changing environment.



The department willdevelop and execute continuous professional education for the healthcare educators engaged in teaching and training of medical, nursing, physiotherapy, medical technology and diagnostic laboratory undergraduate and postgraduate students. Faculty Development aimed at implementation ofinter-professional education, innovative curriculum, best practices of learning and assessment will ensure graduates acquire the skills, knowledge and professional behavior much needed for effective, patient-centered health care. DHCE will promote valid and reliable assessment ofdesired competencies of students, interns and residents.


Liaquat National Medical College


The DHCE will be responsive to the growing needs of the profession and medical educators. Changes in medical education are happening at an accelerated pace. DHCE activities will enable educators to keep abreast with new developments in patient care and education. A dynamic curriculum will help educators and graduates build their careers in a competitive society. DHCE will provide educational support and facilitate the implementation of the best educational practice such as integrated curriculum, adopting student-centered learning strategies, curriculum evaluation, improving the methods to assess students’ performance and professional development.

The Department of Healthcare Education has initiated activities by:


Faculty Development Unit (FDU):


FDU is responsible for the implementation of programs which include courses and workshops on education principles relevant to the needs of medical educators. The basic skill course for Health Professions Educators for LNH&MC faculty has been organized on a regular basis to:
• Enhance the expertise of educators
• Build a strong foundation of the educational system
• Plan inter and intra-departmental educational activities

The course primarily focuses on:
• Objective writing
• Curriculum planning
• Study guide development
• Adult learning principles
• Teaching and training methods: Case based learning, Small group sessions & interactive lectures.
• Blueprint development
• Writing Best Choice Questions, Extended Matching Questions and Objective Structured Clinical Examination/Objective Structured Practical Examination
• Feedback
• E- Learning

Future courses will focus on e-learning, blended learning, inter-professional education and social accountability.


Examination Unit (EU):


The examination unit aim is to develop an effective, reliable, valid, centralized and transparent examination system for maintaining uniformity in teaching and evaluation. Further development of EU in terms of acquiring more software for item submissions, item banks and advance technology has been planned in the coming years.

EU is responsible for item banks of MCQs, EMQs, OSPEs and OSCEs, on-going review of existing items, electronic scanning, exam security arrangement, results preparation, Post Hoc analysis of the result and modification of the questions in the Q-bank.

EU conducts the in-house examinations of undergraduate medical students, and examinations for selection of medical students, interns,residents,and nursing staff. The EU facultyfacilitates orientation session for invigilators, and students with the aim of familiarization with the requirements of examination system, and examination methods in particular. Faculty development programs on principles of assessment and multiple assessment methods have been organized to ensure effective assessment of students’ competencies.
